Meet Your Instructor
Harvey Arkawy has been a Locksmith for more than 40 years. He owned his own successful Locksmith business in the San Fernando Valley, CA for 9 years, and has been involved in the California Locksmiths Association (CLA) San Fernando Valley Chapter since the late 70's as well as others . While a member of CLA, he served as a State Executive Council member, Chapter Vice-President and President. He has been writing and selling Locksmith software since 1980 and has been teaching Master Keying since 1994. The organizations that he has taught for are: Progressive Trade Show Management Services of Corona, Calif., The California Locksmith’s Association, American Security Distribution of Southern California as well as Clark Security Products, San Diego. After selling his business in 1985, he went to work as an Industrial Locksmith for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. Harvey specializes in Master Keying as well as Electronic Access. He received his Federal GSA Inspector's Certificate from Mark Bates & Associates in 2003. He retired from Lockheed in January 2006 and has taught Master Keying for Intermountain Lock and Security Supply, Clark Security Products, The Yankee Security Conference and here on the Society of Professional Locksmiths website where he is the Administrative Director and Lead Instructor.
As long as locks with pin cylinders are being sold,
there will be a need for master keying and the class being offered here may very well be the last master keying class any student will ever need.
Students will learn how to determine what a good master key is, how to determine the way the keys should be cut, what the key specifications are, how to progress the master key in numerous ways to create the key bitting array, how to properly determine and use the various sub-master "GHOST” keys, preventing unwanted cross keying, information on various ways of creating keying charts using the master key and the developed change keys, why floor plans with door identifications are necessary, and how to create master key systems based upon customer requirements.
The ability to cross key without the need to "stack chambers" will also be explained and demonstrated. Upon completion of the class, the student should have the required information and understanding to accomplish almost any Master key project.
For those of you who need Continuing Education Credits, these classes have been approved by the States of New Jersey, both North and South Carolina and Tennessee.

Advanced Master Keying will cover the following items. Incidental Master (Ghost) keys. Identifying the Incidental Master Keys. The 'X' Masters The 'Y' Masters The 'Z' Masters and the “T", “U”, “V” AND “W” Page Master Key. Incidental Master keys are part and parcel to master keying.
